Realized that what I wanted to blog was too long to be added to the previous post, so created another one for this.
Coming back to the meeting with old friends on Sunday. It was quite nice to see all of them again. Though it's only singing ktv (not much talking but lots of singing!) but glad to see everyone doing well. Seeing them now makes me feel that many things I used to hold on in the past was not really worth the effort. During that time when you thought that she's the only one you'd love forever in this lifetime; And that you'd probably not love anyone anymore after she left you. And thinking that you are probably the most pitiful person on this earth, not to mention that all the sad chinese songs during that time seemed to be singing about your story. *smile* All those seemed so childish. Perhaps it was futile attempts to search for identity, for affirmation. Perhaps it was just the days of youth. Now, nothing matters more than having good old friends around.
And there is added nostalgia, in meeting old friends. Perhaps it's the feeling of pity that some old friends are not as close as before. And some who are not there anymore. The feeling of loss as some people we mention will forever remain only in our memories. Indeed, when we were young, we made many friends. And as we grow older, we lose some. Maybe we'll gain some but as you grow even older, you come a point when you realized you have lesser than from where you began. It is at this point where you'll start to treasure the remaining friends you have around you.
It reminds me of this:
When you are in your teens, you can see your friends in school, everyday.
When you reach adulthood, you can see your friends during wedding dinners, every now and then.
When you reach middle age, you can see your friends during their children's birthdays, occasionally.
When you grew old, you can see friends in the newspaper obituaries, if you are lucky.
Let me treasure all the dear old friends I have around me, spending quality time to catch up with them. Be it to reminisce the past, to update on the present, or to share about the future; one can never spend too much time catching up with a good old friend.
